Yeah it is tall. The frame was built for classics courses not GT riding, with Pozatto placing at Roubaix on one. Makes it very easy to ride for long periods on the drops, as well as allowing for a slammed stem 🙂

Absolute steal at Wiggle atm!

The right way being flat I assume?

2mm spacer is well and good (why even bother with that?), but I think long head tubes look a bit daft.

The 60cm Roubaix and things look mental, about a 12" head tube!

Always a thin spacer. Some stems will rub depending on the design of the top of the headset and where the flat part of the stem ends and the angled drop of the stem starts.

Nah, TSC has it right - slammed with a small spacer on top. I can accept a 2mm spacer if there is rubbing, but it's not a given.

Just for njee20, a 107mm head tube.

Scrappy, bitsa build Dolan Track Champion. Used for training, longish rides, commuting and the track.

Not designed primarily as a roadbike but i'll throw it in anyway as it is my roadbike/trailbike/big hill bike all rolled into one.

Since fitted with a sensible 10* thomson stem and 20mm of headset spacers.

I was once told that if you had a 'Pinarello itch' you wouldn't stop till you scratched it so even though I still own my Tarmac Expert, when the opportunity arose to buy this, it was an scratch that had to happen:

Audax (fast)/Winter bike: FM028 chinese carbon, rival/force, A23/SP Dynamo hub wheelset, custom carbon stayed mudguards. Love it because it was cheap, its unique and I did LEJOG on it.

2002 Santa Cruz Roadster, Campag 10S Record/Chorus mix, Ksyrium SLs, Easton carbon finishing kit. Built up for less than £1k.

Love it? Climbs like a goat, handles brilliantly, but is still pretty comfortable - did 152 miles last night (Dunwich Dynamo), and felt like I could still carry on riding at the end. Looks great IMO too - properly compact frame!

A lot of the bits are quite tired now, so I'm trying to decide whether to refurb it, or to swap for some more up to date bling. Of the bikes I've tried so far, I think I'll be keeping it...

Cube Peloton Pro, my first road bike, collected from the lbs yesterday. Starting to get interested in triathlons, having done a sprint distance earlier in the year, and the bike and run legs of an olympic distance at Ullswater last weekend. Been craving a road bike, so went for this one to get started.

Love the looks, now just need to get used to riding it!

But now with Ultegra 11 speed and Shimano RS61 wheels. I have a bit of upgrade-itis so it rarely stays the same for more than a month.

1999 Raleigh 853. Made of Reynolds 853 and one of the last hand made frames out of the old RSP section in Nottingham.

Ultegra chainset, carbon forks, Easton wheels.

I love it because it is great fun to ride and because it has brought a new dimension to my cycling after 20 years of mtb only riding.

My old Airborne Zeppelin, recently replaced with something much blacker and more plastic, also nowhere near as nice to look at, hence my seeming reluctance to get my arse in gear and sell this one. 🙂

[img] [/img]

edit:
Ridiculously smooth running Mavic Cosmos wheels from not long after Mavic started selling wheelsets.!!
9 spd Dura-Ace/Ultegra mix. Dura-Ace STI's were 'smuggled' back from a holiday in the USA about 4 months before they were available in the UK. I spent about 3 days of the holiday trawling around every bike shop in Boston trying to find someone who had a set they would sell me.!!
Decided to splash out and get a Campag Record headset once I realised that you couldn't get 1" headsets very easily anymore. That was about 9 years ago and the thing hasn't needed touched since.. still smooth like hot buttered velvet..!! 🙂

Taken a few years ago now. I've lost the saddle bag, swapped for proper Look cleats and put a nicer CF bottle cage on it, but the rest is the same:
Reynolds Solitude wheels
SRAM Rival groupset
3T finishing kit of various flavours
Nothing special weight-wise, somewhere in the region of 17/18 lbs or so.

Love it because:
It cost me a lot less than it could have done
It goes zoom
It's a thing of beauty

Short of Dura Ace, the nicest Giant Defy you could ever want. Aero SLR wheels, K-edge mounts and a Stages Power crank. And for crashfest Cat4 duties, I have an Alloy TCR with Ksyrium Elite wheels and upgraded Ritchey WCS carbon forks and bars.

[img] [/img]

They are set up the same, but the feel, rather than position, is quite different. Swapping the wheels makes four bikes. Plus my Kona Paddy Wagon for commuting.

built on the cheap off here and ribble for about £300 all in, just need to finish cables and tape up the bars and it's good to go. I guess it's my fault the rain is back, been meaning to get it finished for weeks while the sun's been shining, now I have and it's wetter than an otters pocket

Well inpressed at how good new 9 speed sora feels, have always been a 105/Ultegra sort of guy but budget was tight and I know it won't get the use to justify any more money

SLR wheels look good aswell, would like to compare 'em to the new DA9000 C50's.

Not the lightest but it's very smooth and easy to rack up miles on

All stock parts (Sora) apart from RS80 wheelset.

@boblo its 6.2kg on the LBS scales so they would have to be super heavy pedals to tip it over the limit!

Cheers for the nice bike comment 😀

1996 Trek 1400.
[img] [/img]
50cm.
Bonded, not welded aluminium.
Shimano RS30 wheels, Stronglight/Shimano 8 speed.
Now has a Rolls on it.

Heavy, uncomfortable and handles like a ruptured gnu.

I love it.

Will, since when did Boardman do a single speed??

It's a few years old, now discontinued, guess it's maybe 2011?

I think will just won this thread with that Giant. Lovely drop.

People often forget it's ALL ABOUT the drop.

Pedalforce frame, Ritchey WCS forks, Record 10, AC420 wheels (rear custom triplet spoked on a Record 32h hub).

Because it's lighter than yoooors.

Wilier La Triestina. Mostly stock, although it came with a Veloce groupset, not the usual Athena stuff, and a couple of carbon upgrades bought off the forum on here.

Quite a smart looking bike, if I do say so myself. Rides nicely, too.

The scabby old Trek water bottle has been replaced by a matching red and black once since this pic was taken.

Red and black water bottles are scientifically proven to make your bike go 0.000005mph faster than old scabby Trek ones.

You didn't notice the stack of spacers above the stem which instantly disqualified it then?

I just assumed he was too busy dealing out masses of pain to anyone who tries to sit on his wheel to get a hacksaw out and trim it down.. I'm an optimist, at heart.

I'm somewhat drooling over taxi25's bike. Mmmmmmm...

Taxi 25s bike would drive me mental!

Red = Port = Left,
Green = Starboard = Right

What kind of mentalistic retard would do THAT!!!!!

It doesn't float Daffy. But if it did, being fond of boats I'd share your concerns.

Specialized Tarmac Comp (USA edition), cracked my Allez, Specialized UK could not source a replacement frame for months and offered me this unusual frame as a "goodwill upgrade" free of charge 🙂

custom build, photo is outdated now running Ultegra HT2 cranks, S-Works stem and CF bar, S-Works turbo tires, etc.

love this bike, rides easily but very quick and responsive, no nasty handling surprises. Easy to maintain. Climbs very efficiently and feels solid when descending on bad roads.

Pinarello Treviso, just after having been resprayed for its 20th birthday. Still rides beautifully, even if the angle of the shot makes it look a little wonky.

Monkeyfudger, the Stages powercrank is great. However, if you look closely, youll see that the crank on the Defy is covered by an inner tube and the tcr is not. That's because i've broken two Stages units in our attrocius cold wet weather. Stages have been great though and changed the bonding agent after several failures (see dcrainmakers review), and sent me a fedexed replacement each time.

As for the wheels. Well, i wanted to get some C50s as i think Shimano wheels are excellent. But the Defy already comes with p-slr whhels, so i asked to upgrade to aeros (whose only difference is the carbon fairing) for a net cost of only £250. It seemed a great deal, as i already had the Ksyrium Elites. They are stiff, ride well and came top in the comic's review of £1000 aero wheels. The DT Swiss freewhhel is an acquired taste though. It makes a din! And they fill with water in the rain. But numerous races with others on carbon rims convinced me i really wanted alloy breaking surfaces and am happy woth the weight penalty (about thesame as the Ksyriums).

The bike is fantastic, and feels like cheating. Fortunately the integrated seatpost is all that stops Son1 from riding it offinto the sunset!!!

Scott Addict HTC Highroad edition
Recently built up with 105
Ksyrium Elite Wheels
Deda Finishing kit

Someone said that Charge Spoon Saddles just don't look right on road bikes and I have to agree. Will look into switching it out soon.

[img] [/img]

Kona Zing 2011
Wheels have been changed to Open Pro on 105 hubs

Now has black tape and saddle

If cash allows the 105 will be getting upgraded on the Addict and being donated to this.

This has been used for all road duties over the last 2 years. Clocked up about 10,000 miles on it and was pretty happy until I tried the Addict. Now it feels like a right old duffer.

This is indeed correct. That and I do not own a hacksaw.

Cheers TiRed, yeah I'd read the Rainmaker review and was intrigued (is that you in comments section aye?) but noted in the comments about issues with the bonding. It's def an interesting product and I emailed 'em a couple of weeks ago asking how they were getting on with a UK distributer. My road bike needs* either a power meter or deep section wheels haha 😉
