Short freehub body?...

[Closed] Short freehub body? Is it a SS hub?

Not having owned a SS specific hub before, I fear I am confused. ๐Ÿ™‚

It's a modern wheelset (Bontrager Mustang). The freehub body is half the size of a normal freehub body, and you can't screw on a standard lockring.

Is it a SS hub? If so, what do I need cog wise? I can't need a freewheel, as it's a freehub already. Cog with lockring?

Either a modified freewhel ( cut down ) if you want a few gears.
Or single cog and spacers.

mustang 29er ? sounds alot like a standard wheelset off a gary fisher rig.

only takes an external lock ring so you cant really put gears on .... its not even the same size as a hope 6speed - afair it only takes the cog and the lock ring no spacers

So I need a cog that slides over, and a lock ring that locks it down?

If so, any links to what sort of lockring (or are they all the same?)

Cheers

iirc it was just a BB lock ring - speak to timbur i believe he has my old one.

take it to your LBS they will (if they are any good) have a selection of lockrings to be tried !

then its just a standard SS cog forby that ! im still using mine on a hope SS hub !

external width of the rim ? - id check mine they are in the van in the carpark - but ill be ****ed if im taking the tire off ๐Ÿ˜‰ its wider than a 717 - i suspect about 21/22mm - its not especially wide - wouldnt like more than a 2.2 on there - theres a fair bit of flex in the sidewalls with my 2.2 acx on there . that might be the 29er feel though. its never stopped me ragging them stupid - been really good rims actually - i rebuilt mine onto pro2 and pro2 ss
