Would this short cage rear mech work with a 11-34 cassette?

It would work but if you're running three rings up front, a long cage would be better. Do you often ride cross over gears or are you pretty well behaved with your drive?

Should of mentioned it would be used with a 1x9 set up - 32T ring with a 11/34 cassette. Ive read a short cage mech with a 1x9 set up can help keep the chain tight?

With a single chainring, it would make perfect sense and yes, it will help with chain tension.

Be fine even with a double as well, just not ideal with a triple. Go nuts.
