Right I just in the process of planning my first bike build, I have this little lot on my shopping / want list to build up a SS bike. Anything i've forgotten?
Frame
bottom bracket
cranks
pedals
wheels
tyres
headset
stem
handlebars
chain
brake set
saddle
seatpost
seat collar
grips
any info appreeciated.
Inner tubes.
forks
chainring
rear sprocket
quick releases (maybe)
assume you have tools and bike stand?
cables - Assuming you are going true STW style with cable brakes. Better have V-brakes too
Oh and a gardener for the garden before the post build photos
Plasters for any wounds
Some nice beer/coffee to drink during and after build
And finally. Cake!
beard
charlie the bikemonger sticker
hip flask
Admiralable - a man after my own heart, cake and tea, for standing back from the build and admiring at set intervals while stroking beard and muttering softly.
Cant believe I forgot forks.
Bar ends and lollipop stick for the rear wheel
Good to see you're not using gears: that saves you ferrules, cable end crimps, cable inners and outers and a cutter.
Assuming Hydro brakes - olives and inserts to shorten the cables and a usable way of bleeding brakes afterwards (inc fluid / oil).
Copper grease? Skewers?
rim tape.
Map board.
Bell
stella, a cellar and a hammer
just about to order this lot, anyone see any compatability probs?
On-One Summer Season Steel Hardtail Frame
Hope Stainless Steel Bottom Bracket, Red Stainless 68/73mm
Hope Threadless Headset
Yes, anodized red Hope bits arent compatible with any colour scheme.
May want to put some other info like stem length, bar width, wheel spec, fork choice.... May get some helpful hints for the build since it looks like you're going for the aggro long travel slack hardtail approach and that, given your initial post, you're not certain what you're doing.
haven't got anythimg else yet these are my starting point will be adding month by month as funds dictate. For now I was planning on using the wheels off my spesh with a single speed conversion kit on them, and the fork also, a rock shox dart 2.
I'd just use a shimano BB and a £20 FSA/Cane Creek headset as they work just as well as the hope stuff and are much cheaper. Then you can buy some forks that arent useless.
Dont forget to check the classifieds on here.
One lads unwanted stuff might suit your project, save you pennies for the beer and cake at the end of the day.
Maybe change of tyres for summer and winter ?
Some funds for a pair of 5.10's
