Does anyone know if XT HTII chainrings are compatible with the above chainset?

Also, does anyone run a bottom bracket mount Blackspire stinger with their SLX? Do the shallow bearing cups work ok with this?

I would imagine they are, but you'd be daft to use XT rings as they don't last too long. Go for Deore steel ones, or replace like for like.
🙂

EDIT - I was thinking of the old alloy ones. The new composite one are better, but a Deore middle is just as good and costs about £9...

Yes, and yes.

The SLX 36T ring looks beefier than an XT, but an XT would fit.

The stinger just replaces a driveside spacer/washer.

Thanks, but I'm not going to use an actual Shimano one, it's a Blackspire one made for an XT HTII chainset.

Thanks Dusty.

Does anyone know what the weight of the SLX double + bash is, compared to XT double + bash?

I'm using middleburn rings on mine - no problems with fit.

A DRS clears fine, so I imagine a stinger would too.

Weight wise it depends what Bash you have on the XT. I got a bit weight weenie and swapped the SLX bash ring for a Gamut one, and that was a chunk lighter than my old XTs with a racefash bash on. (I'd ripped the pedal threads out of the XTs, hence the change)

Depends on the bash I think.

I just bought a SLX double and bash and it felt lighter than my XT with E13 Supercharger.

But when I swapped the E13 for a Shimano bash, the XT felt a bit lighter.

You probably wanted something more precise than that, but there's not much in it anyway!

Sorry to hijack this thread - I'm considering doing the same thing with my SLX and fancy fitting a chain guide. How does that Blackspire thing (or any of the twin ring tensioners for that matter) work?

Does the roller move along it's axle to follow the chainline across the two rings?

No, the roller is stepped, the chain sits on the step when you are in the granny ring.

SLX double has a heavier duty axle and steel pedal inserts, its about 200g heavier than the equvilant XT setup. My advice would be not to run a bashguard unless you regularly hit things with your chainset, if you take care setting up the stinger you won't drop your chain.

On a related note - anyone know anywhere that has a Blackspire Stinger ISCG in stock?

I permanently run a Race Face bashguard anyway, have done for years. I don't see the point in a large ring, unless you do lots of road and flat bridleway stuff, and I have my hardtail for that.

Would be great if someone actually had some figures: I know in the MBUK test that the SLX double was roughly 200g heavier than the triple ring xt.

fwiw although the PCD is correct, the slx has a marginally larger dia. (2mm?) for the "guide flats"(not sure what they are properly called) on the big ring side. I know this as I took the bash off an SLX double & put it on an XT one. i had to file the inside of the bash to make it fit (as well as doctoring the face to clear the inside of the crank arm profile).
so, in summary, no problem putting XT ring on the SLX, but SLX 44t will not fit on the XT.

HTH

I meant don't run a bashring or a big ring, just granny and middle 🙂
