My gx mech has go so much play at the pivot and is starting to creak......not sure if its fixable or not (will look into that)

but a xt mech is cheaper, is there anyone running this combo? shimano mech with sram shifter/chain/cassette?

sure ive read it works perfectly but cant find it on here

If 12 speed then yes it can work. I've not done it myself but a mate ran a deore mech as a stopgap during the great part shortage of 2020. Said the shifting was spot on - i think the pull ratios for both SRAM and Shimano 12 speed are the same.

If 11 speed then I think it needs to be SRAM as the pull ratios are not the same

sorry yep 12 speed, thought as much, sounds like it should just bolt on, and hopefully have a bit more chain tension than my saggy gx clutch!

Eagle cassette, Shimano Mech, Sram shifter and some KMC chain working well here.

So far as I know they're close enough to work reasonably, but perfect but good enough that must folks won't complain.

GX setup with Deore mech... all good here, replaced the GX mech when i was disappointed in how weak the clutch felt

GX Eagle (shifter, cassette, chain, chainring) with SLX mechs on 2 bikes. Works perfectly. Went with the SLX when there were shortages of GX mechs a year or so ago.

awesome thanks for the info folks -

quick question then - is the clutch noticeably quieter than the sram one it replaced? ive always felt the clutch is weak (even weaker on the GX AXS) so be nice to get less chain slap

Jumping in on this....How do you go about setting B-tension - know how finiky SRAM Eagle can be

from what i can gather the rear shimano mech has a line on it on the rear of the cage, simply just set the edge of the teeth on the cassette aligned to that and job done
