Query about Shimano M520 SPDs: Is it possible for the pedal itself to wear as well as the cleats? I have been having problems with my shoe rocking from side to side when engaged in the pedal and when I pull up on the pedals there is a 'click' at the top of every stroke. I've tried some brand new single-release cleats but this doesn't seem to cure it - any thoughts?
Have you tried adjusting the tension?
Grip the pedal body, and feel for play.If there's any movement then you have loose bearings that can be adjusted in a similar manner to a cup and cone hub, you just need the plastic tool from Shimano to remove the body fron the axle/bearing assembly to get to it. Once adjusted, half fill the body with grease before re-assembly, this wiil force fresh grease through the bearings(and make a greasy mess of your new tool).
Tension is adjusted correctly and there is no play in the bearings. It seems to be coming from the cleats, which don't seem to be making full comtact with the pedal at the front. Obviously there is a need for a bit of space to allow for the float, but this seems to be quit a lot.

of course.
new pedal time.
yer knackered..
and with the cost of cleats on their own so high, best just to get a new set of pedals M520 inc cleats for not much more...
