I need to shorten the hose. Slide the rubber bit off, undo the nut, slide it down, cut the hose where required, than what? Do I need to buy anything?

There is an Olive, which should be changed and in the end of the cable is an insert that will need to be removed (if you can its a job getting them in) when you shorten it you will need to insert a replacement, but with luck you can reuse that bit.

Thanks, Stoner. I understand that unless I squeeze the lever I won't need to bleed the brake. True or false?

correct.
any small bubble created at the hose end should travel up to the reservoir in use.
