Hi everyone, I was just about to order a new Hollowtech BB however i have just noticed that chainreaction and merlin's list one for deore cranks and one for slx. Is this merely a product code difference or is it a different bb?

As far as I know they are the same, but if I were you would get this as it has cartridge bearings, but prob not a lot in it tbh.

I think they all have "cartridge bearings". Eitherway I'm utterly unconvinced that the more expensive version is any better, if they have the same bearings in them then they will last as long as each other...

Deore is different to SLX/XT (which are identical) and XTR. Less good external seal was the main difference as far as I could tell, the bearings might be the same or might not but I got about 2/3ds as much life out of a deore. Which tbh was still more than some people think they'll get from Shimano ๐Ÿ˜†

Didn't think it was worth it for the small price saving though, it was basically 1/3 saving for 1/3 lifespan loss so breaking even, but still with the hassle of having to change it early.

Still can't tell any difference between XTR and XT other than the colour, the shapes are different but the performance seems the same.

They're all interchangable, all will work the same as each other but they're not all the same quality. I've had Deore XT and XTR on my XTR cranks (and now Gusset EXT24)
