[#3941017]

I've heard a few rumours that it maybe possible for me to retain my XTR M970 triple and just upgrade shifters, mechs, cassette, chain etc to 2x10. And obviously change to a double and bash on the chainset with 10 speed rings.

Does anyone know if this is possible? I'm not a massive fan of the new futuristic XTR chainset and my M970 is still in top notch condition and would save me a dollar or two.

I use a 10 speed cassette, rear mech and chain with a '9 speed' triple crankset without any problems on my Tallboy. The front mech is still the from my '9 speed' triple set up as I found the '10 speed' double front mech wanted to index the chain too far over (from granny to middle on a triple may have a different spacing than on the new double cranksets - or maybe I just set it wrong?). I also removed the outer chainring and replaced with a bash then adjusted the 'stop' screw on the mech. All works fine.
