I'm looking for some shoes for my son for some extra weatherproofing in the winter as he's wearing vans atm. Has anyoone got these shoes? Oh and knows if they're ok for flat pedals not clipless?
Wearing a pair right now - commuting shoes
They shrug off light splashes, but there’s a lot of padding, so once they get proper wet, they hold loads of water and take a while to dry.
Pretty stiff, so sub optimal for flats. Memory says there wasn’t a removable patch over the cleat slot, so there’s a big hole in the middle of the sole if you don’t need to fill it with a cleat.
Not the shoe I’d pick for winter flats specific use myself …
I use them for commuting duties.
Rubbish on flats. As above, no cleat hole cover, slippy sole. Also take ages to dry. Not particularly warm. Tongue isn't gusseted, holes in the forefoot.
Fine for what I use them for, but wouldn't recommend for what you propose.
was gonna buy a pair myself, for general pottering about.

I got a pair to try out clipping in. I like them but I wont rush to get them again when they die and I wouldn't pay full price.

I’d look at Adidas Terrex for flat pedals in the winter. They're splashproof ish, but don’t absorb much water and are quick drying. With decent socks on I’ve found them fine in winter.
Not quite as grippy as 5-10’s are but not bad at all.
For spd shoes I’ve got Shimano AM7’s and found them fairly reasonable so far in terms of not sucking up too much water or taking ages to dry.
Why not look at the GR9 shoe? It's a flat sole shoe designed for flat pedals.
