Running a 11 speed setup but the 7 year old XT M7000 shifter has broken and I can get a 12 speed SLX M7100 shifter for a good price and the band clamp I want.
Will it work? I’ve heard it does - anyone KNOW FOR A FACT that it does before I pull the trigger? 😉

Those more knowledgable will confirm but I believe it will work with the rear mech but only with a 12 speed cassette with the correct max size of the mech (46t?).
i.e the shifter has same cable pull as the mech but different spacing between clicks than the cassette.

No, it won't work. You can mix derailleurs but that's it.
