Hi,
I was changing the bearings the other night on my 2007 Patriot frame and the bearing clamp bolt snapped. It is in a really awkward place to be drilled out.
I am sending it to Orange who can hopefully assist me.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so I'd be grateful for any advice as I dont fancy the cost of replacing the frame.
Orange dont have any replacement swing arms which is not going to help.
Thanks,
Murray
I've spoken to Orange about stripped threads in the swingarm for the bearing clamp bolt and they immediately offered to re-tap them for me. They seemed to do that sort of thing a lot so are probably your best bet.
If it gets desparate you might be able to cut a section of the frame around the snapped bolt away to get some purchase on the bolt. Once you've got the bolt out you might then be able to use a longer spacer to take up the space of the material you cut away. Don't have a frame in front of me so cant say how realistic that option is, but might be worth a look?
I did something similar on a patriot, in the end orange were able to drill it out and re tap for a bigger bolt and reamed out the end cap to work, wasn't the prettiest but it saved the frame (bolt had bent snapped and pulled out threads when th swing arm broke so it wasn't a usual job)
