First ride on new bike today, and running a shadow rear mech. Do they require the chain to be longer that a conventional rear mech ?
Getting a lot of chain slap, if not what length/how sould I measure the chain to see if too long.
Rode Dalby red today stunning weather and dusty trails !
Thanks for any help Rich
length of chain is more to do with the chainrings and cassette, the job of the mech is to 'absorb' extra chain. if you go 'small' and 'small' there should be a gap between the upper jockey wheel and the lowest chain run
trying adding more B spec tension?
I don't see how a longer chain would solve excessive chain slap, if you're getting chain slap you would surely need more chain tension therefore shorter chain?
I run a shadow on mine, and can't say i notice alot of chain slap. if i have my front mech in big ring and the cassette on the 34T then my mech points at about 5 o'clock. (not sure if that gauge of measurement tells you anything but thats what mines like!)
Shadow mechs are longer than usual- long=extra long, medium= long. So yes, you'll need a longer chain.
Rubbish isn't it? They go to all that effort to move the cage out the way and then make the arm so long it practicall drags on the floor?
No.
Big to big, not through the mechs, plus two links - just like the manual says.
WTF???
I didn't make the above post?
OMGWTFLCOPTER??11!!?
ok how are you doing this, who are you?
Never been stalked before.
ah. Lukeb
No wasn't implying I wanted to lengthen the chain. Was just questioning if running a shadow led to running a longer chain.
Will test the big to big.
