[Closed] Setting up pikes for a lightweight rider. Debonair/Luftkappe?

I’ve bought my son a new (2nd hand) bike with 2015 Pike RCT3 forks.

I’m doing a lower leg service on them, but had read that the debonair upgrade, (not the new one with big cap) increases sensitivity at the first part of the travel. As does the luftkappe, it appears.

Are either of these worth doing while the legs are off, to help them move under his 58kg of mass.

And if anyone can point me towards how to set a cane creek DB Air that too would be appreciated. Everything is adjustable, too much adjustment!

58kg should be fine as it is. This was a 2nd hand non-debonair pike for a lighter rider. But it did come from Tracey.... and was super plush from the start.

db shocks have an app. Should be on playstore or whatever source of phone apps you have. Follow that to get a good base tune then fiddle after that to suit.

I can't speak for the Debonair, but the Luftkappe is superb on the earlier Pikes. I weigh around 65kg and basically I was never happy with the stock spring, it just isn't very good and tbf the changes they've made since are pretty much Rockshox admitting they got it wrong.

But with the Luftkappe in it's transformed- still obviously a pretty basic air spring, but it works as it should. It's the sort of mod that's much more a fix than an upgrade

I gather the Debonair works similarly though maybe doesn't go as far, but I've not had a chance to really play with a fork with one fitted so I can't comment. If I was doing it again, I admit I'd be tempted to try the Debonair just out of curiosity and since it's a little cheaper, but, I'd probably go Luftkappe again. I am really picky about forks/springs, so I guess it's quite a high compliment that I consider it a good result rather than just putting a coil in it like I'd usually do.

Mrs_oab is 51kg's.

We mix a lighter weight oil into her forks - the Reba I added IIRC 25% in a lighter oil, the Fox I have added IIRC 30%.

It seems to work well - higher speed it moves more easily and we just crank up rebound a bit.

changing oil viscosity (Cst nor W value) doesn't do much on shimmed dampers for compression or highspeed rebound but can affect LSR as they are ports (needle).

Matt, does the pike have oil weight damping? Would that be in the charger damper?

And, I can’t find the app for cane creek, “dialed”?

Yeah luftkappe is a damn good upgrade. Pikes of that age are still really good forks, especially with a luftkappe. They havent changed drastically really.

I'm 59kg and have some 2015 Pikes that feel perfect. Though they are the RC model and have the compression wide open.

I think playing with the damping side will make more difference than the air spring. My Yari was too over damped until I put a charger damper in there. So no the same damping as a Pike and feel perfect for me.

dialed isn't on the app store anymore sadly. They have an online sheet you can use though that is is good.
