[Closed] Setting up 1x10, why so noisy? Think it's chainring but why?

Bit frustrated here as the 456 is out of action on the best week or two for hitting the dirt that I can remember. At the weekend I put on new cassette, rear mech (SLX with clutch) chain (KMC X10) and On-One SS chainring.

Spinning the cranks with the bike on the stand and the chainring noise is horrible! Never had anything like it, kind of a heavy whirring metal on metal sound.

So what to do? I added 2 links to the chain but it does seem a bit tight, could it be that? Won't be able to work on it until Wednesday night now but feeling a bit puzzled and miffed.

Aren't the on one rings 1/8th and normal geared chains 3/32ths ?

A Hope alloy chainring would be better.

The On-one website says "Compatible with 1/8in and 3/32in chains" and folks on here have used them with 10 speed. Didn't expect a problem given the comments I've read.

I had similar problems with a Goldtec ring. Changed to Renthal, all good, quiet. (456C)

Looking at a Raceface Narrow/Wide chainring, anyone know if this is likely to run OK (ie quietly!)
