We will be in touch
i know the likes of BETD will do it for a fee but how hard is it to do?
I have a vice, drifts, punchs and a dirty great hammer...
About as difficult as picking your nose. Fiver for a pair of bearings off t'internet, ten minutes in the shed hitting things. Just take the top hat off carefully then you cant go wrong 🙂
Any idea what the bearing code is?
6805 2rs
I get mine from www.ebrbearings.co.uk £5.70 pair inc postage. Generally last 3 to 6 months depending on weather so not best quality but I've not had much better out of original 'brand name' bearings, and when its that easy to change them it suits me.
Saw this in a previous thread....

Could I ask your advice ? I've just fitted a new ht2 bb/slx cranks to a genesis altitude frame, I wasn't able to screw in the plastic cap as it's about a mm off from the axle thread, any ideas ?
Apart from this I tightened the crank, when I spin them they feel slightly stiff, is this normal ? Guess I'm not doing this right !!
cheers
6805 are £4.50 for a pair delivered on the bay!
Cool. I'll get some ordered and give it a go.
jambo, i have the tool from betd to pop them out easy peasy, im in plympton if your around that way anytime, just mail me if you want to borrow it..
well the first side was easy, however i think the second side was beyond redemption and the race was welded into the cup. managed to spit the race and there is no way the remainder is coming out with the cup in one piece.
good job i've got another dead one to play with, hope I dont end up with a pair of lefts...
brute force and a dirty great hammer win the day....
Sorry to barge in here....
Has anyone service one of superstars BB ?
I took mine apart this morning, took the black caps off and the bearing seals only to discover some kind of silver metal ring IN the bearing cage covering the bearings.... How the **** do you get it out ? I just want to flush the bearings and regrease them.
Has anyone service one of superstars BB ?
Yes, I have but I just whacked the bearings out and popped new ones in, didn't look inside I'm afraid!
I used my headset cup removal tool to knock the bearings out. It worked a treat! Superstar was easier to service than Shimano since there was more overlap for the tool to fit on.
Doglover-how wide is your BB shell? Have you used 3 spacers(for 68mm) on a 73mm shell(only need 1, or none if E-type mech)?
Hi coatesy, presumed it was 68mm but just checked and it's 73mm, that might explain why I can't get the cap to screw on!
Cheers 😉
metal ring IN the bearing cage covering the bearings.... How the **** do you get it out ?
i just use a fairly sharp knife and gently prise the metal ring off taking care not to damage it, grease the bearing race and pop the metal ring back in and the jobs a good'un
