Hi Nerds,

can I get sense check on my SRAM XG-11-50 cassette. It's failing to shift into my lowest gear no matter what cable adjustments I make. On closer inspection it's slipping off the cassette guides (I don't know what the term is) before the teeth can catch the chain. They all look worn with a chunk missing out of each... photos to as example.

Would this be enough to stop my chain shifting? (i'm guessing yes).

Link to image of cassette because I can never photos to bloody embed on this forum - https://imgur.com/a/iLvtx0Y

I’m not sure that would stop it shifting tbh, are you sure your hanger is straight?
I’ve seen worse sprockets shift just fine.
Check the limit screws, hanger alignment, shifter cable.

Is the low limit screw in the right position? If it's wound in a bit for whatever reason it will prevent you going going in to the lowest cog no matter what cable adjustments you do.

You didn't link to the image but the page with the image on - different thing. The img tag needs the URI of the actual image, usually ends in".jpg" for photos.

How much wobble is there in the SRAM mech?

Ime of the cheaper SRAM ones there will be loads at every bushing after a short while

Thanks team - I did a full check and it it was the low limiter screw, just a qtr turn and it fixed the issue. Biggest cog is now picking up the chain. I really hate messing with the limiter screws so it was my last thing to try.

Amazing how the bike can run smoothly for a year then that screw somehow moves?!

I had it happen to me with a Shimano cassette the other week, simply wouldn't move on to the lowest cog (I don't use it that much), the limit screw had wound in by nearly a full turn.

`youll probably find that the mech is bent inwards and that's why it ran well for so long and now doesn't run right without adjustment.

The limit screws don't just go out of whack without intervention .

The normal two are bent mech or worn out jockey wheels

Be double sure it cannot over shift above the 50 now...

Yes, as trail rat says, pedal bike with one hand, push mech up onto big sprocket with the other, to make absolutely certain it can’t go over the top.

It doesn't. The hanger will be bent or the mech will have play in it. A limit screw will not move of its own accord.
