Hi,
Am selling a bike that has some very nasty scratches to the top tube, all comes tick happened when I leant the bike on wall and bike rolled away scratching top tube!
The frame I a pinnacle iroko so nothing special but components are decent, reverb, six, gx 11spd etc.
So is it better to split based on this?
Stickers
The scratches run the length of the top tube! Be a big sticker
Just include lots of photos.
Just be honest in the description. It’s a sellers market, it’ll be fine.
" here is my bike, its in great condition except for the scratches on the top tube from a bear attack photos of damage to allow your own decision making"
Do you think you could do identical scratches down the other side? Then it's a 3d custom paint job.
See what you get offered. Don't forget a paint job is probably less than £250.
'Custom paint' or 're-spray' put me right off any bike purchase. My first question is WHY?
I've seen some pretty ingenious repairs and coverups under paint jobs. I even remember Saracen getting busted for knocking out brand new alloy bikes with filler under the lovely livery!
I'd sell it 'as is' and slightly reduce your price.

That's exactly what I was going to say basically.👍

I'm disappointed too. Come on, pictures, price and location?
If you can get pictures that show it is just paint damage and not dented then you'll get people interested. Or but a Dyed Bro sticker
Split and strip, raw n ready to paint is better than scratched up.
Be honest, sell it for £50 less than a minted one.
A single bit scratch would not put me off. Many scratches/dents, or even worse a painted cover up, would.
It’ll sell fine, you’d be amazed how many people don’t actually care that much about cosmetics, just whether the bike works. They just don’t post on here 😉
Its a bike, they get scratched. Just be honest in the ad.
Again, just sell as is, I prefer seeing the warts before I commit. Cheap powder coat from an "unfinished project" just rings alarm bells.
I’ve had success parting a bike out recently; if you don’t get what you want selling as a whole bike it’s worth considering (in parts I got more than I paid for the bike in Jan 2017 and it was a well used frame).
As said be honest. I nearly cried many years ago when I leant my beloved bike up, it fell in a totally random way, rolled backwards and ended up gouging a 100mm long section of the top tube on some barbed wire that was on a wall.
Didn't make a difference to the ride and I mentioned it when selling the frame many years later. Got about £20 less than I would without it. (£1.50 lol )
It's a Pinnacle, no-one will be buying it for bling and brand kudos where the finish is part of that showroom appeal but it's a sound bike that could be a bargain to someone if the price reflect some cosmetic damage. Could let the buyer figure out what to do, if anything.

You might be suprised by how may 'smoothed weld' bikes are pollyfilla under paint. Funnily enough those brands don't tend to mention the filler in their frame construction sales talk.
