to ease the heat I am feeling from the wife I need some form of outside secure bike storage. I quite like the look of Asguard style units the can be bought for about £500 to £600 but i wondered whether i would be better off getting something similar built out of blockwork and then rendered to mate my external walls.

has anyone done the latter? how did it go? what do you use for a the door?

Any idea on costs?

any advice for or against much appreciated.......

Priced something similier up myself once on the back of a fag packet, and on the brickwork side it's only a couple of hundred squid. Security doors start getting pricy though, then there's the roof. Would be a better asset for the property than an Asguard though.

Same dilema. Probably looking to do the latter though, masonry rendered to match the existing property.

what do you use for a the door?

Probably going to use a door for the door though, probably a good solid core with decent hinges and ironmongery. Locate the door on elevation where it would draw attention if anyone was trying to tamper with it and fit a security light with proximety detector so that it triggers when people approach said area.

If I was building this, I think I'd go for a concrete roof and a steel door.
Build the walls to full height, then put in a false plywood roof about 3" below the top. Fill it to level with concrete.
Make a door out of 50x50mm angle with 3mm plate welded to it.
Put a cap over the padlock hasp, like you see on storage/shipping containers
