I recently handed in my old 306 for the scrappage deal towards my wifes new car.
It was 1995 306 it a bit of a state and the MOT was going to cost a fortune but good for carrying the bikes. My wife wont let me put the bikes in the new car so looking for a second hand one to transport them.
I was originally thinking of getting a 2001 model 306 as I know the boot is massive in them.
But I've started thinking an estate might be a good idea. Ie for transporting stuff holidays etc etc..
Any suggestions or opinions or this. Are there any disadvantages I've not thought of ie slower, harder to park etc etc...

Mondeo estate or saloon maybe? You don't mention budget, but for the price of a 2001 Pug you might stretch to a similar year Mondeo (newer model) - and it's a terrific car for lugging bikes (as well as being very refined and great to drive).

My 2nd car is a 3dr, 1.4 Megane and I can put 2 bikes inside easily and 3 on towbar rack comfy
check replacement price of cam belt on whatever you buy and whether it has been done. Also consider clutch replacement cost?
Focus estate also an option.
I find estates [i]easier[/i] to park as there's nothing past the back window.

Yeah Im not worried about speed, I was just wondering if there were other major disadvantages to having an estate.
I've been driving the uni MTB club about in the minibus and took the bikes to this years BUCS in a little transit van and just thought how much easier it would be with a large car.
If it's JUST for carrying bikes and going to the tip, I'd spend £800 or so on a 1997 Saab 9000. They're cavernous inside, usually come with loads of toys, are tolerably economical (I had a petrol non-turbo and managed about 32mpg) and at that money it's pretty well throwaway after a couple of years. As it's a hatchback you can easily fit stuff in.
Oh, and mine was on about 200k when it finally died. They last a long old time.
Berlingo - slightly wider and longer than the Kangoo (of the same era) and cheaper than the Pug Partner (which is the same as the Berlingo but has more safety features - primarily a passenger airbag - it's a Citreon so chepaer than Pug - but the same vehicle.
