Need a new seatpost as mine is worn down (though still functional so will be kept as a spare). Always had Easton and never bent one, is it worth spending twice as much for a Thomson or shall I stick to the usual EA50?

If you are happy with Easton then go for another one. Thomson posts are fit and forget bits of kit and very well engineered but the layback ones are not to everyone's taste.

You'll understand why Thomson have their reputation when you get your hands on one. Beautifully crafted posts.

although thomson are not the lightest around by a mile.

I use a control tech, caused no issues at all. Come to think of it, in all my time owning bikes i'ev never had issues with seatposts ( easton, USE, control tech, nuke proof etc).
So, buy which ever one you can afford and looks the nicest and you'll be alright

Thomson are lovely in terms of machining, the clamp is very good and they look nice...but they are pretty stiff in terms of comfort if thats an issue to you... no bmw or audi here either
