I've just bought a used Scott sporster hybrid, it came with conti tour ride tyres which have to much tread for my liking,
The size is 700x35c
Can I go narrower than 35c??
If so how narrow can I go?
I'm wanting slicks or something with maybe rain channels, as lees tread as possible

Really depends on the rim width. Sheldon has a table of recommended tyre widths against rim width, although he admits that it's pretty cautious:
