what would you pick assuming you had the cash and why?
I bought a Big Jon in October because
* the shop had both sizes that I was interested in
* as far as I could tell it had a balanced combo of components not amazing but then again nothing awful
* I liked a lot of the details such as the threaded BB and thru axles f&r
* from the first turn of the pedals in the car park I liked it
All I've done since then is ride it. It's a very mountain bike kind of fat bike
Iirc the Felt is a similar kind of thing but the Scotts were there in the shop
thanks - what size did you go for? i'm 6'1 so thinking large for both
Mate of mine recently bought a Big Jon. He's happy with it and I reckon it's pretty much spot on. It would certainly make my shortlist if I was replacing my 9ZERO7.
Never seen a Felt so not able to make a comparison, sorry.
Hasn't the Felt had a recall on it?
I'm 6'2" with long arms and legs and the L felt like every other MTB I've owned - lots of seatpost extension, saddle back, an easy reach to the 60 mm stem and an upright riding position. While this is kind of the classic MTB fit, for me it presents some problems and I didn't want another bike that was the same so I went for the XL.
The XL would fit someone taller than me but with an inline seatpost and a 50 mm stem it's fine in a stiff-back XC kind of way which is really what I wanted. Scott's sizing charts put me right at the top end of the L and right in the middle of the XL and I'd agree with them
At 6'1" I would suggest the L would be ideal for you. The XL is a big bike and if I'm honest the proportions of the L looked better but it was just that bit too small
I've a felt dd30 and love how it rides. However......
There was a recall on the 'old' version with the carbon seat post as they had 10 or so reports of cracks....
As a whole the bike is just full of smiles but - TBH I'd get the shop to swap the OEM carbon bars out for some alloy ones as they failed (dramaticly) on the first ride - however this was due to shop error over tightening the stem (I suspect that's it's the same case with the seatpost).

Also the paint chips very easily - you do get a small pot of matching nail polish with the bike (first sign of crappy paint on a bike).
Thanks all for the inputs, as always STW never lets you down.
Monkeyboy - thats a bit dramatic! Would definitely dent your confidence if that happened. Can you offer advice on the felt sizing?Large is a 21" frame, but the geo looks quite similar to the scott, iirc it may even have a lower standover height that the scott.
also one of the things i really like about the felt is the paintjob, although i was very taken with the scott when i saw it. Entirely the wrong criteria to decide on a bike i know 🙂
Sizing wise I ride a medium - 17.5". I'm 5'10 and it's just about right for general trail duties. I did find I was loosing the front in corners so
As you can see in the photo I had the 70mm stock stem swapped for a 35mm which is great for the steering but a bit short and I've settled on a 50mm In the end.
The paint looks lovely, but, chips easily....
I've also changed the forks for some China carbon specials which are half the weight - the stock alloy ones are 1450g....
When i changed the fork i noticed that the headset (FSA OEM) isn't a 'propper' cartridge bearing one. But this caused more issues as the bottom cup is external and 56mm - not an aftermarket size. So that's been a pain to source as an inset version would steeped the head angle by 0.5 degrees - ended up getting a Works components Angle set. Another bugbear is that there is no dropper seatpost routing. No the end of the world though.
If I had £1300 again, Personaly I'd go with a Rose.....
I bought mine in August and I'm thinking of upgrading the frame in April next year. I recently sold alk of my other bikes and kept this one for the winter. I'm thinking Nicolai Argon (possibly pinion gearbox).
Thanks for all the inputs, i think i've settled on a BJ. Oh, wait...
