Mates motion control stopped working properly the other day (intermittent compression interferences, nice noises etc)
Ive just opened it up and extracted the motion control unit.
The gate threshold adjustor works fine, but the compression adjustor wont rotate fully 110ish degrees as it should. It only makes it to <90 degrees before it binds (rather than "stops" against a bump stop) meaning the compression valve cant be closed fully.
The gate can be removed (the lower black block of plastic) and seems OK. But I cant get into the compression rod itself as there's a tiny roll pin securing it all that cant be pushed out and it's too small to pull out with needle-nosed pliers.
Is it worth trying to fix or should I just buy a replacement unit?
I dont suppose anyone's got a Motion Control damper lying around? ๐
Yep, slightly leaky from the top but that never stopped it working. Was Poploc but i unhooked the spring.
I'd offer to send it but doubt i'd manage till the start of July...
13th - that may be a great help anyway, Ill drop you a line if you could email me at the address in my details. Cheers.
haha! Flooks is a legend!
Described the symptoms and he said that it sounded like a seal had come displaced inside the head of the Motion Control unit.
The red body can be unscrewed from the black alloy head (reverse thread!). This allows you to remove the adjuster rod and the adjuster stops are visible. Theres a complicated, non-oring-like seal under there which had got itself out of place a bit and was getting caught in the adjuster stops.
A bit of a wiggle and realigning and its back to where it should be. Wouldnt be surprised if it got "blown" out of alignment on a drop or something.
Anyway, jobs a goodun. SO I wont need that spare 13th, but thanks. BTW Tim Flooks said that there werent any spare motion control units in the country so you may want to hold on to it ๐
Interesting! I've never been able to open those things up, the one on my new Rebas doesn't feel so hot, might take a look...
i now have a spare set of very worn out Rebas and a spare motion control, I'm well served for spares!
