[#1684752]

My Linksys router's power supply overheated and failed and I replaced it with a spare I had (exactly the same), It now won't give a wireless signal but internet works via a cable through the router's port. Any ideas before I splash out 20 quid on a new one?

thanks

First power supply could have overheated because of a fault in the router (maybe the wireless bit), but check everything is turned on.

Flash the firmware down and back up - might prod it back to life...

How do I do that? I've connected to it with a cable and can access the web but there is no way into the admin area, it can't find the IP. Have pressed the reset button, no joy.

192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 - usually login is admin and password?

Hve you tried here?

Key in the model number and there may be some more pointers for you to try. Some of them need the button to be pressed and held, usually with a paper clip or similar.

Most routers will have the IP on the base along with username / password.
But as you say, it's fine when its hard wired.Have you checked your PC's wireless card settings? Can you see any other wireless networks when you search for available connecrtions?
