Is there a route that is at least partially of road to get to mabie from Dumfries. Will be staying at Marthrown.
Any suggestions welcome as i don't much fancy the A710
Cheers
Dan
Not that I can think of. the A710 isn't bad though.
sustrans Caledonian Cycle Way from the station takes you to Cargenbridge.

Then at the factory roundabout there is more cycleway up to a back road. Turn left and then right onto the Dalbeattie Rd for about a mile. Then turn left onto another back road towards Mabie Farm Park. Turn into the farm park road an go straight ahead passing the farm buildings and up a forest access track passing a small cottage on your right, then through(round)a gate. You are now in Mabie forest. Follow the tarmac road uphill till you go past the parking meter, turm right towards Mabie house and follow signs for the bike shop, go around this and follow trail straight ahead. You then come to a forest road junction, follow uphill to Marthrown.

Lots of people cycle out to Mabie so dont worry too much. It is school holiday time here in Dumfries so roads are`nt too busy at the moment.
BUT the Glasgow holidays are about to start and Sandyhills/Southerness area does attract a lot of people!!!
The route above is not quite the route I take. I just cycle through town and out the Dalbeattie road, it is my daily commute as well tho, so used to the mad Dumfries commuter traffic.
Off on holiday on Fri otherwise could have maybe given you a lift.
If you do call the shop ask for Euan, he is a bit of a ss type
