A really strong pair of pliers? Is there an 'easier' way? Its a c2mm allen key to remove
tap a torx head in?
Can you get one small enough? Typically I need to change the pads (worn out).
you can get tiny torx heads, got to do this to my hope mini's next time the pads wear out (Damaged it putting some in this weekend)
Or tap in a 2.5mm allen
A 3/32" allen key is slightly bigger than 2mm so may do the job.
I was in the same situation, and a guy in a bike shop did the following, and it came out a treat.

Put the correct allen key in.

Got a set of molgrips and clamped really hard round the bolt head.

Turned the allen key and molgrips at the same time.

Bob was his uncle.
I watched only, so not sure if there is a knack that I couldn't see, but it looked easy.
You'd be hard pushed to get a set of molgrips onto the bolt that hold in pads on Shimano calipers
how the **** do you round that bolt anyway?
Ah, sorry, it was a disk bolt that I had rounded, not a caliper bolt.
Not awake yet.
...but surely if he can get pliers on it, he can get molgrips on.
Right, let me have a go tonight with the molgrips and allen key- if not will whack in a slightly bigger allen key.
How did I do that? I'm hamfisted.

using crap allen keys (even though I posted a thread on what decent allen keys to buy last month), and just tightening it too much...
what caliper is it? most shimano ones ive seen use a 3mm allen key. Magura Marta use 2mm and is teeeeenny!
Saint caliper (same as older XT)
pretty sure thats a 3mm, the 2.5mm i have for my ODI's (and frequently pick up by mistake as it isnt marked with the size) is too loose.
Did you have any joy with the molgrips?
drill it!

quite unbelievably i have just tried to find said thread, plumbing new depths of biking geekery, and can't. linky link!

Use a pin punch or impact driver to close the bolt around the allen key worked for me , after i tried cutting a slot in it to use a screw driver which after 1 hour of hammering left me with 3/4 of a mangled head. Good luck
Why did you have to tighten it up so much anyway?. It's not carrying any load and with the wee split pin on the end it can't come out.

yep I went searching for it too (gunna buy some now!) but it turns out it was a post not a thread...

sweet. 🙂

Nope.
Larger allen key hammered it- a rounder and bigger hole now!
Why do I overtighten? I overtighten everything including car wheel nuts (sheesh). Taking it down to be drilled by the LBS. Kinda need new pads in soon...
I had a similar problem. I used a dremel to cut a small slot in the top and used a flat screwdriver.
worked a treat.
