I really like riding my Rocky mountain Vertex 2008 frame with a 2007 reba at 115mm. It's great. I like messing about on marin, llandegla, penmachno. I'm no speed merchant and I can get battered all over the place. but 'tis fun.

IMO you're not missing anything. I rode my Hammer at 115mm and liked that and now I'm riding a Vertex RSL at 100mm and like it more - it can definitely handle UK trails. More travel isn't necessarily more fun...
like yer style marmoset. guess I'll stick with my very nice and fun bike then. What is it with this long travel heavy hardtail thing?
Dunno, I like light bikes, so much easier to lift them up when mincing over tricky trails 😆
