So, when Ribble were knocking out the stupid cheap forks I picked up a 27.5 Revelation 150mm for a future build.
Well that time has come, and I need to drop the travel a bit. No problem, I'll just pop the serial that is etched into the crown into Trailhead to see all the details about it. Pick up an air spring and get it fitted. Well, here we have a problem...
Serial number entered not found.
This could be caused by an inaccurate entry or the number corresponds to a replacement part.
Anyone had this before?
Anyone good at identifying forks?!
Have you tried the RS website first. They might have some info or a different number, you know the fork number might be one thing only recognized by RS and you need something else. Worth a shot.
But at least yours are working. My pike select plus's damper is stiff and v difficult to turn. Ribble are wanting a vid. As if a vid is going to convey how easy or difficult it is too turn the damper knob.
I dont care how long ribble have been doing this, their customer service is crap, it was a long drawn out process speaking to an eejit.
Cheers. Yea, it was actually there I first got the invalid serial message. The only number I could find on the fork is the one etched on the crown - there is no serial number sticker on either leg.
The fork seems to work fine, if it comes to it I'll just pop it along to my local suspension specialist have have them sort it. But I kind of fancied having a crack at it myself considering how little it cost me.
I bought eyes fairly wide open with Ribble. Unless it was obviously faulty on day one I just treat it like any ebay purchase. My problem. I don't have the mental energy to waise with their customer service!
Yea, the £40 dropper I picked up from them in the sale didn't work either...
I've had this before with OEM stuff.
Hit the i don't have a serial number underneath and guide yourself through, hoping that you've identified the right generation of fork.
I had this with a set of RS Yari forks I bought from Bird a few years ago. They were ex-display forks. Trailhead threw up the error message when I entered the etched serial number.
I e-mailed SRAM/RS with the number and a couple of photos and they confirmed they were legit forks but the CSU had been replaced, maybe due to damage to a stanchion.
Thanks folks. Think I might punt a mail over to SRAM/RS support just confirm they are legit anyway.
I'm sure they are... but Ribble...
So now I just have the joys of identifying exactly which ones they are! Any pointers I can look for?
Hi,
If you send me the serial number and a couple of pics of the fork I'll post a link to the correct service manual for you
I've had this before... About a week after I first tried randomly the trailfork site started to recognise the number and correctly ID the fork. Might be worth a try in a few more days.
Just saw this thread whilst searching for something else . The numerous problems I had with Ribble after supposedly buying 2 of their reduced droppers a while back was worthy of a film. Eventually after 2 months of arguing I received half my order which was faulty anyhow on receipt. Not at all impressed.
legit forks but the CSU had been replaced, maybe due to damage to a stanchion.
Also during the parts shortage companies did make their own forks by cannibalising parts of other forks combined with spare parts.
Really? 🧐
The serial number of my SID Select+ suddenly stopped working on the Trailhead app a few weeks back.
Trailhead is quite flakey, it quite often stops working but reports that it can't find a serial number rather than giving a useful error.
Give it a couple of hours and it might start working again.
Had the same with a set of Pikes... took them apart and was able to identify using the online manuals
