[#11060322]

Have been debating whether to service my shock myself or send it to a shop. Decided to take the leap....anyway - I got to the part to remove the S valve cover on the piggy and when I was doing that all the air gushed out - I didn't even need to press on the actual valve. When I did nothing came out. The valve was basically loose. I'm guessing this is not supposed to happen and likely why my shock has been feeling like shite for a while??

Tried putting air in it to see if I have the issue with the adaptor seal releasing before the pin is released and sure enough all the air came out and nothing left in the piggy! Will have to do the mod via drilling a hole and using a spoke I guess! What a useless tool from Rockshox!

Daft question - did you put the adapter on your shock pump before screwing in to the valve?

@darkpitt74 -- no I didn't. I did remove them both together though. I cant see it having any impact by doing the adaptor first and then pump - prior to pressurising. Maybe I'm wrong?

I have stuggled with keeping the pressure in the IFP seem to have a one in ten success rate so would like to know of any top tips . Drilled my adapter out and put the cut down spoke in but still struggling to make it work.

@bgascoyne this is the sequence from the Service Manual:

Thread the pump and Monarch™ air valve adapter tool into the
IFP reservoir cap.

Use the pump to pressurize the IFP reservoir to 250 psi.
Once you have pressurized the reservoir, remove the Monarch
air valve adapter from the air fill port before removing it from
the shock pump.
Separating the pump from the adapter first will allow all of
the air to escape from the reservoir.

It's a common problem...

Recently bled mine after discovering the dreaded clunk in the open position that results from the reduced IFP pressure allowing cavitation

this should help:

Are you using the red adapter?

That info from the Finnish guy is interesting. Lines up exactly with what I was experiencing.. although I didn't have much of a clunk. I haven't been able to use full travel for a while though which I used to be able to do.

I'm using the RS red adaptor but I noticed that there appears to be a newer version on the TF tuned site. It looks much different. Maybe Sram has fixed the issue? Might be worth a shot if the work around solutions don't work!
