While taking the wheels off my Codeine, the front Maxle 'lever' fell off

It looks like the bolt that the cam pivots on has sheered off

Does anyone know if it's a service replacement part? I don't want to buy a new maxle, unless I leave it on my car roof etc for the sake of a tiny part

Thanks in advance

You should be able to warranty it.

25 months old! I knew I should have checked the bike over earlier

In that case looks like you may have to buy, I'd get a stealth maxle

They have a bit of a habit of doing that, there's really very little metal in that part. It's not "too weak" but it's not generously strong either.

I put a stealth in mine, lighter (and cheaper!) and doesn't have the bit that breaks. I really can't see the advantage of quick release in an axle, for us, when do you ever want to remove an axle when you don't have a tool handy?

(mind you I'd rather have a sram maxle than my 36s' overcomplex overdelicate bolt-in bullshit...)

I agree - I think the stealth is the more logical replacement.

What tool do you stick in the end to release it?

I broke one in the same way, but it was about a month old SRAM warrantied it, which is goood when you see how much they are. Looks like BETD are making aftermarket axles so will replace with one of those and finally remove the one remaining sRAM item on my bike!

Just an allen key, M5 or M6, can't remember.

Do RockShox (or similar) produce a rear Maxle stealth? I've got one in my Pikes, but one for the rear would be great.

Huh, i snapped my rear in the same way this week, was appalled at the price of a replacement. In theory the lever assembly (i.e. everything except the actual axle) is a replacement part, but I couldn't find anyone that stocks them. There don't seem to any alternatives unfortunately, so i've ordered another and i'll be super-gentle with it.

Yes they do, not sure if you can buy it in the UK yet though.

Remember reading this....

...I remembered after just snapping mine off (at home im glad to say) after not using much force on the cam at all.

Glad it happened at home! 😉

Just ordered the Stealth from Evans, £27.99 delivered. Hopefully they last better?

They have the full Maxle range here. 🙄
