Hi guys I have just bought RC damper for my 2019 revs. After installing it I found I had no slow speed compression working. I then read it probably needs bleeding. Out it comes and there is no bleed port . When I compress the damper I see oil being squirted out of very small holes in the top of the damper body just under the threads for the cap. Does this mean I have a damper that needs oil in the top of the leg to work properly ? Thanks
You have fitted it following the service guide..... right?
If its leaking from under the compression adjuster it needs a full strip to replace a tiny seal around the adjuster knob. Did it to mine recently. There's a vid on youtube.
Thanks for that somehow I had missed half of it.
I just pumped it up and down a few times out of the fork and there is now definite difference in the resistance using the compression knob. I will put it all back together and see if it's still there . Thanks guys
Now I have compression dampening when it's out of the fork and none when it's in. Looks like a total strip down which means vise blocks and correct oil . Wish me luck. 👍
Is it a new damper? If so send it back
If not the 2019 ones had very little damping. I much prefer it
Is it the new style charger damper (I believe 2020 onwards) which doesn’t use a bladder? If so I used to have it, and the LSC adjustment didnt do a huge amount so could be within normal parameters?
Yes mate it is that one . It's a solid body all the way down with no specific bleed ports. Maybe I will see what it rides like but I'm now concerned it needs filing up with oil so that means taking it apart and topping up and bleeding by means of pumping the lower shaft. Funny thing is the damping works great out of the fork , just hardly noticeable when installed.
I did manage to get mine open without the specific vice block tool (or vice), although it took a long time and some swearing. I put it in a work stand which has a rounded profile, with a rubber glove in it for grip, and also held on with a marigold with one hand whilst undoing the top.
It eventually came open, but I was nervous the whole time about crushing the damper body it was so tight in the clamp of the stand. If I were you I’d order the correct tools!
After following the bleed procedure the damper didn’t feel much different, but I was at least happy it was working as it should.
Actually once I got used to that fork (Lyrik Select) and fiddled with set up I thought it rode nicely so I think the damper is pretty decent, despite LSC adjust not doing a huge amount.
Thanks mate I'm going to use a wooden block ,drill a 27mm hole and then slice it in half. Hopefully my work stand clamp will be strong enough.
