Hey guys
Impulse purchase of a coil shock (Rockshox) and I'm in need of a 2.5mm reducer.
Any available that don't require a disassembly of the shock?
Believe the Rockshox ones will need shock to be sent off.
My google skills are weak and i can't work out how to sort the issue without sending the shock off.
Cheers
To shorten the eye to eye length? That's a strip down and rebuild job
If its to reduce the stroke, I'd cut one in half and stick it under the bottom out bumper, dab of Sikaflex to hold it to the lower spring perch.
Sorry guys, stroke length.
Eye to eye is fine (205), stroke is 60mm, need to reduce to 57.5mm.
Have you checked it on your frame first? You might find that the frame and linkages can deal with the extra travel without any issues. Obviously make sure you have your largest potential tyre fitted, remove spring and cycle through to check for clashes. Give it a firm sit too to make sure your well into the bottom out bumper.
My old specialized demo 7 had a U-shaped 2.5mm spacer that slotted under the bottom out bumper,
Cheers guys, @snotrag going to check first to see if i get get away with the 60mm stroke as i don't have a massive tyre in the rear.
@honourablegeorge, U shape!! that helped with the google search, came up with this which i reckon will fit/work;
Formula MOD Shock Stroke Reduction Spacer – Ride Formula (elro.uk)
You could get one designed and 3D printed in two halves that slot together like jigsaw pieces, I was gonna do it for a 65mm stroke shock on a frame that uses 62.5mm but the extra 6 point something milli of travel is doable after checking with the spring off so I didn't bother.
This would suggest you can buy one from j tech and it just sits under the bottom out bumper. This is exactly how my Cane Creek co shock has the stroke reduced too.
Caveat is if you have a new RS super deluxe coil that has the optional HBO then there’s more to it then just a spacer. Might be worth a quick call to j-tech to check what you need for yours. They’re always very helpful over the phone so I tend to buy all my suspension servicing stuff from them if they have it in stock. Normally comes next day / within 2 days even with their standard delivery.
