Any one who gets the words "release the chocolate hostage" into their commentary definitely deserves the gig!

The commentator chemistry in this modern DH classic is astounding.

He may be a lovely fella but I can't watch anything that he commentates on, I've tried a couple of times and I always end up turning the sound off which although crap is still an improvement.

He's great entertainment and I love listening to his commentary but he was a bit of an animal to say the least, when he was a bit younger. I remember in the late 90s, early 2000's at various motocross GP's in the UK Warner was one of biggest instigators of a lot of trouble. All alcohol fuelled of course but he was an absolute nightmare.

First time i heard him with his how does danny sit down and his excitement i liked him

I did not realise it was all he had in the locker though

It is like listening to a shouty excitable drunk from what little i have heard

Could be worse, could be Clare Balding

*actually that would be funny, Balding commentating in a Warner fashion

Some excellent videos in this thread. Shows how excitable he is when the competition heats up. Although he does tend to be almost as excitable when the competition is a bit crap... Still, that is his job.. He's a damn sight better than the average script reading commentator on the average sports channel with no passion for and only a vague knowledge of the sport.

(I also tend to forgive people who were involved in the occasional bit of alcohol fuelled mischief in the 90s. As I hope people would forgive me...)

Probably the last person I'd want to sit next to on a long haul flight but pre 2012 his commentary made the WC DH essential viewing. Stop censoring him, nobody gives a [bleep].

really, it could be a great laugh, or there is also a chance they would land and throw him off....

Hairs on the back of my neck stand up whenever I watch Danny Hart's run & Warners commentary is a big part of that, enormous passion from Rob & tremendous skill from Danny, a classic

Didn't he do some spots/presenting on Mountain Biking Britain in the late 90's or early 00's that followed the NPS? He was also in some of Peaty's and others videos performing his legendary antics - IIRC there were even Rob's World segments which Red Bull have also got him doing.

What did he do when he stopped riding for Giant? It must have been a decade ago now.

He's still sponsored by them. Mate bought one off him via eBay. Imagine the surprise when you turn up and Warner answers the door!

I bought a pair of boxxers of Mr Warner many moons ago, very nice chap IMHO and a far more entertaining commentator than many. I don't think people appreciate how hard it is to talk for the whole of an XC race and make ANY of it seem interesting.... ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you listen a bit more closely you'll realise he has a depth of knowledge of the scene, riders and history of DH that no professional commentator could rival.

And he has the knack of delivering useful insights in the heat of the moment.

I heard some non-specialist guys doing the commentary when Eurosport showed a round of the WC DH once. They didn't even appear to understand that the fastest guys came down last.
