Probably a numpty question but:
I have just bought a new 105 groupset & the front mech does not have a clamp ring on it. How does it fit on?

You may have bought a Braze on Mech. Can't tell you without pictures though.

Its a braze on front mech. you can buy an adaptor, but it is easier to buy a band on front mech

You've bought a braze-on front mech. Your choices are to sell it on and buy a band-on front mech (make sure you get one of the correct size for your down tube), or, as above, you can buy what ammounts to an aluminium collar which the braze-on front mech you already own attaches to.
