I'm looking for a newer frame and carbon fork - probably alu for year round use. Something I can do club 30m eveing rides9otherwise known as friendly racing each other, interval training sessions/sprints on etc but also sportives. A good all rounder.

But also commuterable - and dont read this as mudguards/pannier compatible.

The only things i can find are Dolan and Kinesis Racelight T2 - both are verging too much towards the commuter/winter/tourer riding and I fancy something a bit racier.

What is out there other than these two - are there no on-one 456 equivalents (but in Alu).

Most are only top end carbon fancy things other than that they are full bikes which I dont really need.

Why no carbon? I know Canyon and Cannondale do good alu frames though.

That is only 300 inc the carbon fork too which is good.

Why "alu for year round use"? As far as I can tell carbon doesn't rust. It's components that suffer in the worst of the weather/road salt, but frame shouldn't? (Correct me if I'm wrong!)

Well mainly not carbon due to leaving the bike on a train 2 or 3 times per week. I regullary find a few bikes plonked on mine as I get on first and off last. Would hate a dent in the top tube for example.

I'd go with yes, but then maybe I'm an idiot. My Look goes on the train to Stirling quite often. Lots of BMXs join between Polwarth and Falkirk. I just stick my jacket or similar over it.

EDIT: That's utter balls. My carbon Pronghorn goes on the train to Stirling. I ride the Look over.

Any planet x pro sl going second hand. In 5'10 and I have a 55.5 giant at the mo, the specs make it look like I am in between m and l according to top tube length.

Why not try either a Moda Bolero of Moda Rubato?

Bolero has mudguard eyelets.

I know where the OP is coming from, you feel carbon needs constant care whilst an alloy frame can be just chucked about.
As you just want a frame I'd recommend the PX Superlight Team or the Tifosi CK3 and some Columbus forks off that Ebay.

No offence but why would anyone want a Moda? My take is that if you need to ask what bike to buy, then the big names are there for you. Plus the Moda is a bike only isn't it? and hung with ***p components.
Barelli? single pivot brakes??? Perhaps one day I would buy a Moda, but now....non.

This is probably as good a deal as your going to find as you say for £299

Oldgit re the Barelli brakes, the ones on my Stretto seem to haul me up sharp enough (about the same as my 09 Ultegra's anyway) but perhaps the SRAM ones are a whole lot better?
You are correct that the Moda's are full bike only though, still came joint top in £1000 bike tests IIRC

There is the possibility of obtaining frame only Moda's from certain dealers.

TBH my take on p components is that they don't work?? The components that we fit to our bikes all work correctly or else we wouldn't fit them!

Plus also it is up to the rider what they perceive as p. As we all know the same component can be badged up as 5 different names & everyone will have an opinion! Why not test ride one??
