needing new rubber for the cross bike for varied road riding and wanting to stick with 28's. Curretly using Bonty Racelite's but hard to get hold off. Thinking about Conti GatorSkins, which are £24 at Merlin. any alternatives I should be thinking of ?

Thanks

Stuck GatorSkins on my Tricross and have used all summer long, with only 1 loss of air. Included cyclye from Glasgow to Durness via Western Isles, so all sorts of road conditions and carried all the luggage. Went down to 25mm though......

Cheers

Continental GP 4 Season are made in 28, much much better than those awful Bontrager hard case tires.

The Gatorskins are good, Spesh Armadillo similar.

Not tempted to go down to 25's?

Ok not as forgiving but surprisingly far more lively and fast - you'll immediately feel the difference..

Agre with aP, using conti 4 seasons and those bonty tyres are terrible - horrible wooden feel and not very good puncture protection.

I'm thinking of gong for Vittoria Open Pave Evo CG this winter as I love the vittoria open corsa tyres I'm running on my road bike.

I've been using 28mm Gatorskins for a few years. I really like them - they perform well and last a decent amount of mileage. Some people reckon they don't grip well in the wet, but I don't think they're bad myself - although more grip is always good I suppose. Apparently the 4 seasons grip better, but I've not tried them.

GaryM - Vittoria Pave Evo CG are very nice tires - but they're kinda spendy and have a relatively short lifespan, just keep them for Roubaix and Flanders 😛

Yeh they're not cheap but they would match my green Jake the snake commuter perfectly - that's far more important than money 😉

When you say 'short lifespan' what are we talking mileage wise as I average 150 commuting miles a week so don't fancy buying a new set every month. If they last 3 months I'd be happy.
