Just thought I'd pass on some info...I successfully managed to inflate a hutch tubeless tyre on an open pro last night (and rode in to work on it).
I used duct tape and covered it with B&Q plastic protective tape, and a valve cut out of a tube (got to cut this as wide and flat as possible as the hole in the rim is big). Holding up so far, and doing a sportiv on Sun with it.
Couldn't say if it's much faster/lighter - rode in on town bike with pannier etc!

al - not sure why, myself. I haven't yet been convinced of the idea of tubeless on the road, given that tubs are such an established choice and seem to offer all the advantages tubeless is looking for.
I CBA with tubs though!

only advantage of road tubeless I can see is puncture proofing - if it works at high pressures as well as it does at low ones on the mtb. I'vre tried those slime tubes on the road & they just spray out green jizz at high pressure rather than stopping the leak. Looking forward to reports on this once tubeless gets going on the road in numbers.
al, you did seem to contradict yourself & then posted a reply to 1969 that needs more than just reading as most people know it 😉 . Do you think there's a weight and/or speed (rolling res?) gain ??
I think there's a weight advantage - not reseached it tho.

My point was that I originally said I couldn't comment after a 5 mile ride to work with panniers on - so it was caveated already. I also don't care if anyone thinks it's a bodge job, if it works reliably, it's finefor me, you can keep JRA in business.

not sure how rolling resistance is improved. if its the same tyre at the same pressure it shouldn't be any different.
granted, if theres no "support" from a tube there may be an increase in carcass suppleness, but that would mean greater comfort but larger tyre contact and therefore more rolling resistance for the same pressure.
erm there's not an inner tube moving against the tyre, nor being deformed.
