I have £3500. i love specialized's tarmac but no discs till next years bikes. i have looked at cervelo R3 disc at my local evans cycles.

today ive been looking on canyon's website at there race bike ultimate cf sl disc 8.0 DI2. i must admit for £3500 it covers everything. just not sure about ordering from website and hoping for the best.

im 6ft 3ish and giants tcr advanced only go up to a large size. im at the end of the large and just going into XL.

what do you think?

I'd get something I could afford to mend / replace when I crashed so probably something like an Allez Sprint Comp.

This ^ Your race bike is something you’re happy crashing and/or smashing through unsighted potholes. Of course if you’re somewhat wealthy then crack on!

The Allez sprint does look bad ass, spend the change on wheels, and the rest of the change on several Holliday's/training camps.

Caveat: not a racer, don't even look like one.

My SWorks Tarmac SL5 in the classifieds and £1500 change? I can do Di2 build too if you want 😉

Giant Propel goes to XL. Fantastic bike. Even if you must have discs. If you plan on racing, it will be in good company. And you'll crash it. Eventually.

This. Did I say this?

Two-wheeled perfection.

That is, if you ignore this.

Oh, the beauty.

Allex sprint? Really?

I'm not wealthy at all.

And I'm going on holiday in August!

Serious answers only please?

It was. Are you racing elite? If not then you may as well be on a btwin triban for all of the difference it'll make.

Best all round race bike per pound at the moment is the Giant TCR IMO. Loads of different builds. If I was in your position I'd get one for about £2k and get some properly quick wheels and tyres.

Oh don't be ridiculous. An alloy frame is clearly way below the capabilities of the op.

Whilst I don't know simon personally I do feel confident that on this one occasion I can answer accurately on his behalf and so I believe Simon would respond;" your Mum".

I was going to suggest something, but I won’t now as I wouldn’t want this associated with the brand.

As for Simon I know he ride a pink Trek and something else with a battery attached.

Race bike

What about this? It’s appears to be winning some sort of road race here.

perhaps he means just Road Bike ? the canyon ultimate cf sl disc 8 doesn't look particularly "racey" the model below (the disc 8.0 aero) looks more suitable to race on/quicker with deepish section wheels

Perhaps he does but maybe he should say that.  A road race bike suggests racing.  If he is not racing but just wants a nice expensive bike to ride around on fine, just say that.

Btw. At 6 ft 3", you'll fit a large TCR. Giant TCR has a longer ETT than a Defy, so you can size down by one size. I'm building a M/L for my nephew who is an inch smaller than you.

Giant were of course partly a Dutch company, you know, the tallest country on Earth, a large will fit you.

5months ago he spent £5,600 on a Roubaix so this seems like a downgrade

TCR is a much nicer ride than a Roubaix at any price.

BTW I raced my Propels 42 times last season, plenty of them, TCRs and Tarmacs. Not many Roubaix in the peloton.

I would personally avoid Canyon, nice bikes but customer service cannot beat your nearest Giant store.

Agree with the above that a Large should suit you OP. Have you tried one?

Be careful thoigh, if you go in and they ask what sort of racing you do and you respond with the same attitude as you have on here. They may not be inclined to be very helpful.

If you gace me £3.5k to buy a nice bike I'd probably get this

https://www.rosebikes.co.uk/bike/rose-x-lite-six-disc-ultegra-di2/aid:2686176

I've got an older rim x-lite now and it is brilliant.

I think you are all misunderstanding what the OP keeps telling you. He has stipulated many times that the racing he is doing is called “ Go fk yourself” but you lot keep taking it the wrong way. Its a form of racing whereby you ask people for their advice/knowledge and see how quickly you can respond rudely and then continue said abuse to other posts. In my eyes OP you are the winner, great racing fella.

As for aluminium being rubbish, try riding a caad 12. I bought one with discs as a winter bike and love it.

back to the question, I'd be looking at a Cannondale because I like them, but you can't beat canyon for value.

Life must be difficult if you have a meltdown at something as minor as this.  Someone suggesting a lower priced bike isn't taking the piss.

If you want a serious answer then you need to say the type of rider you are and what you want from the bike. If you just want a nice road bike for 3.5k then just pick the one that looks nicest, I'm sure all bikes at the price range will be pretty good.

This thread delivered on so many levels. Shame it had to escalate quite so quickly, if he hadn't gone full nuclear it could have gone on and on, but I guess the banhammer got him?

Where can we find the OP's review?
