Has anybody made this work? There's an article on Bikepacking saying it can be done with a Shimano 105 and a Wolf Tooth Tanpan. Has anyone tried this? I'll be using an SLX 11-46t cassette instead of the SunRace one in the article, I'm guessing that will be ok?

Interesting, I’m trying a 10 speed big mtb cassette with ultegra shifters and rear mech.
Seems fine except chain too short. I have a mech extender ready. Need to have a proper play.
11s tanpan does what it says on the tin, been using one since 2016 or thereabouts

This sounds good
Same here, ran 105 levers I think with slx 11-42 via a tanpan. I think I sold the tanpan but do still have the levers and flat mount brakes if you're interested. Left lever is converted for dropper post though.
Cable or hydraulic brakes?
Cable
Will double check what model numbers they later, but hydraulic, RS505 rings a bell, 11spd, front and rear with mounts, 160mm CL rotors and 27.5x125mm KS internal dropper if required.

Not really answering your question but a grx 812 rear derailleur manages 46t no issues. YouTube suggests it'll do a 51t cassette aswell.
Yeah, GRX rear mech might be you buddy here

These look good! Which type of brake caliper are they compatible with? I have road (short pull) mechanical ones
Road - working well with BB7 road disk. Shifter paddles operate differently to Shimano, takes a couple of rides to get used to. Working fine with an 11-46 MX8 cassette and 12 speed Deore mech.
Microshift XLE 110 are designed to be compatible with 11 speed MTB rear mechs.

Perfect, thanks for that! I've bought a pair. Currently going for £99 at Chicken Bike Kit on ebay if anyone's interested!
That's a fair price, RRP was/is a bit steep. I like the fact the gear cable exits externally, not under the tape - loads of room behind it for a bar bag, and the integrated barrel adjuster means you don't have to split the cable elsewhere to put in a tension adjuster. Easier to change cables, too. My old Sora levers were like that.
I think Microshift should've made a version compatible with long pull brakes, though, as I suspect some people (me!) would've liked to use them with old MTB kit out of the spares box.

That was my original set up, I would have snapped them up too. I went with Gevenalle in the end, which have been ok but I haven't loved them so I'm gonna sell them.
