Am looking at a Casseroll (thanks Sheriff Fatman and SDB).
It's a semi-compact. Both my road bikes are std types and of differing sizes (I don't think it matters too much as you can just use stem length etc to adjust it and this doesn't affect things as much on a mtb)
I think I'm between 2 sizes, 56 and 55 (effective 56 and 58). The effective top tube on each is 560/585mm and head tube 165/185mm
My current bikes (below) are 57/60 in size, 57/59cm TT and 152/172mm HT
I think the 55 salsa will look like a gate, but its TT is a better length. Any thoughts?
Nice pannier
I don't think the compact type frames ever look as gate-like as standard frames. If it's for (light) touring though, do you really need a long TT?
185 HT though - are you sure that's right?
With an unscientific estimate on the size of your current bikes compared to my 53cm Casseroll I'd guess the 55cm frame would probably be more suitable, but then the head tube is long which makes for a quite high (and I must say comfortable) front end. I'm using a 100mm stem, so I guess you could run a 2-3cm longer stem on a 53 with no problems. They aren't particularly gate-like anyway!
I'm edinburgh based, so if you want to try a 53 for sizing, let me know!
druidh - I think compact frames look worse in bigger sizes! I don't have the bikes set up differently in terms of length tho maybe I should. Def 185mm HT
I am thinking a 53 also - the 55 would need no spacers and a flat stem - would look wrong. Also lighter and stiffer!
