Riser Bar - how wil...

[Closed] Riser Bar - how will it affect handling of my hardtail (versus a flat bar)?

I have a 685 mm flat bar (Easton EA30) on my xc hardtail (Decathon 8.2, 115 mm fork). I have found my small nads do not give me the confidence needed approaching drops and steep terrain.

Would a riser bar (of similar width and sweep) make the bike feel more relaxed and allow me to feel more confident? I am thinking that the position may allow me to be slightly less 'leant forward'.

I have a 100 mm stem, with 10 degree rise (if that makes and difference). Is it the bar I need to change (rather than the stem)?

If you put a bar with a slight rise on it, you will raise your front slightly and shift your weight bias back on the bike slightly.

Similar thing happens if you fit a shorter stem.

You need mahoosive wide bars, a 50mm stem and before you know it you'll be riding like Steve Peat. Just don't go near any trees ๐Ÿ™‚

You could go for a riser or a shorter stem or both. Either could push your weight back and lift your head a touch. If you find the bar comfy you could try a cheapo stem to see if you like it and then buy a decent one ifyou do and its easier to swap stems than bars.

Would try around the 70-80mm mark.
