I've had my trusty pair of Northwave XC shoes for 3 years, and now stitching is coming apart all over the place and the soles are looking more than a little bit used.

I'm slightly flat footed, and yet these shoes are too broad for me. What recommendations for replacements. I want an XC shoe, but not a weight weenie (I'd have to stop eating all the pies), but I like ratchets and velcro, not laces.

Who makes the good shoes these days?

Sidi. Mine are a few years old and dirty but otherwise fine. OK so there are cheaper out there but I'd happily buy another pair.

Cheers all. Im suitably convinced I need to find that rare thing, a cheap good LBS which sell sidi, Mavic and shimano mtb shoes in the south...

Chainreaction have some good offers on Diadora shoes.

I got Carbon Evo's for £70 and they are excellent, ratchets and velcro and a very stiff sole

I really like my Scott Comps, fairly narrow and good arch support for my flat feet. No laces, just velcro.
