how much will tyre width (i.e. knob width) be affected by moving to a wider rim?
i have precious little space to play with, but would like to move up to a sun ringle mtx33 from a mavic tn719...

Guestimate it'll be about a factor of 3 (i.e. pi) as your changeing the circumfrance of the tyres cross section.
TN 719 = 19mm
MTX33 = 26mm
So 7mm different, so the tyre will be about 2mm bigger?

Id keep the Mavic rim over some tat Sunn rim anyday.
It will give you a flatter tyre profile also
