Do I really need rim tape or am I better off just getting electrical tape and giving it a generous wrap-a-round?

I have used electrical tape and its been fine but i guess it depends on how sharp the edges of your rim are/how thick you wrap it/tyre pressure.

Elec tape seems to work ok at mtb pressures but for the £3 I'd get the real deal.

True say, don't know why I'm moaning at £3, just thought it might be worth a shout. : )

I used 2 layers of some cheap insulation tape, mainly because I couldn't be bothered going to the LBS at the time.

I use a couple of wraps of electric tape, because it's cheap and light.

I've used masking tape for the past couple of years with no issues!

I've been using a single wrap of electrical tape for about 2 years now. I dont weigh much and never run high pressures. Also my rims have nothing sharp in em. Even run tubeless!!

3M crossweave tape. Much stronger than lecky tape. Works tubeless too.
