Having now done a couple of rides with Troutes Cutie I can confirm this light is bloody bright! On the 1st ride I had both the Cutie & my Liberator on the bars to carry out direct comparisons. For outright power the Lib can't match the Cutie - this thing will dry out wet trails! My only critisism is that I felt the low setting was too low for my preferances, but this can probably programmed differently on thr driver. I liked the hood over the lens as it helps prevent you blinding yourself when you get out of the saddle. All in all I think Chris has got himself a winner with the Cutie.
Sadly its all recharged & boxed up now & ready to post on to Stoney - enjoy!
Thanks for the trial Chris.
Iain.

PS - Cutie, liberator & diy 1800 on the head all on at the same time was fun!

Cheers Iain....

And thanks for pre charging it.....that`ll same me some time after work on Tuesday night..... 😛

On Sat night i was just messing arround with the Lib and Spider Eyes while out with the dog. The old railway is totally covered with trees just behind us and was a perfect "tunnel" to try them in. The Spider Eyes on Low was roughly like the Lib on Med. Gradually bringing the Lib up into the beam it would blend in with the Halo but the square spot was still clearly visable....Not so much witht the Lib on boost........however,the SP is still on low 😯

With them both on boost......I honestly think you could just about drive a car with them... 😉

So with the Cutie and SP there must be at least 4000 lumens!!!!! 😯

I`ll give a report later in the week

No probs guys...

SP will be on its way to Iain on Monday and ill send the Cutie to MB Kid.

Prepare to be blinded you guys...... 😉

Im just busy decorating at the mo and ill give some more details later on.

FTAO Chris (Troutie) there could possibly be another development on your lights. On of our group works for M Sport...Yes, the world rally team 😛 and he took them to work on Friday to give them a go and see if they are any use to strap on the front of their cars for night stages.

I kid you not! that is how bright they are. 😯 I could honestly drive my van with the Cutie on its own..... 😉

Top Job mate!

That will be an interesting evolution! I used to do a fair bit of rallying and the cost of top end lights is astronomical. They're keen (obviously) to reduce weight and the amount if power drawn down for illumination.

Toons,
I'll pass the spider eyes on to you after I've had a look at it.
I think it's on it's way to rc200f8 (Ian) now, then to me, so it will be a while.

cheers
chris

Trout,

Is the Cutie still doing the rounds? If so, I'd really like to try it out. Thanks.

That Cutie reminds me of the BFG.

As in Doom, not Dahl.

I like 🙂

If these are still doing the rounds and it's OK with Mr troute, I'd like to try ideally the Spider eyes or failing that Cutie.
I'm in Bristol, currently my email address doesn't appear to be in my profile, but I'll try and fix that.
I'm pete(AT)fixedbristol(DOT)org(DOT)uk
Just the thing for night practice laps of tbe Bikefest course on the Pugsley, my "brill" lights from last year are nowhere near as good as the new trails dictate.
Cheers

I think Chriswilk has the spidereye at the moment then I guess it will make the trip to toons so Flashy if you send an email to Toons for next dibbs on the spidereyes .
will have to have a look at your Pug too next time I visit the inlaws.

the Cutie seems to have settled in Thetford forest and is staying there for D2D

I will be getting my hands on the machined cases later this week and then need to get them anodised so hoping to have some available next week
sadly they wont be Lazer etched as it still has no name yet and I am struggling to find a local lazer engravers .
so Stealthy black the first batch will be

Cheers, I've emailed James (Toons).

I'm still interested in buying a light but would appreciate some help on choosing the right one.

Bring a bike down (or I could find a lend) and I can introduce you to the new trails here. You're very welcome to try the pug, if you fancy.

Surely given the first post the name for the cutie has to be the bunny boiler

The spider's eye lights look more like a mad monkey to me

That housing looks great.

Will it be available as a kit &/or without battery ?. I'm looking to upgrade from my modded Lumi cans with XPE & XPG. I'd prefer to source components locally than go to Cutter.

Yes I guess it can be available as an empty vessel or even complete kit to diy with or without batteries
infact the very first one is battery free and with a lumicycle crossover lead I have yet to make so its owner can use his Lumi battery

spider eyes is indeed with me.
I'll give it a test in the lab over the next couple of days and ride with it tomorrow.
If you happen to be around peebles Wed evening be warned.
2 riders, one with a liberator and the spider eyes, one with the Dominator and a single XML on the head.
I reckon that will over 6000 lumens when we are on full beam.

Toons, I'll post spider eyes to you at the end of this week.

Just took delivery of the new Dominator. Looks superbly put together, feels great quality and tested in my garage it nearly blinded me on Max, the garage was ridiculously bright. Can't wait to test out on trails on thursday evening.

Anyone thinking of buying then do so. 🙂

Ok, just done the dark garden test. My Dominator has 5 settings (standard battery), low would certainly be ok for road use middle setting would be plenty for most off road excursions but the 4th and 5th setting give a massive amount of light. Very pleased with the light spread and throw too.

Roll on first ride out 🙂

Just took mine out for a couple of hours on the downs.

I set mine up in uib2 duo mode, switching between 3000mA & the default. At the higher mode it's bonkers bright. Low mode was fine for climbs & pootling along wide paths. Just under 2 hours riding just about exhausted a Lumi 2.6AH battery.

Fully agree with the comments about the ideal light spread. The beam is wide but has good throw.

I'm very impressed. Definitely recommended.

I hate you but at the same time love you!!!! Just ordered my dominator after an annoying hour fitting some plastic makeshift bottle mount things to my orange five. The bloody dog ate the instructions and they were not straight forward to put on. Having assessed the plastic things will hold a bottle battery I have just ordered my dominator,

Having seen the picture above I can now take the plastic shite off my 5 and look forward to a good winter of night rides., a wasted hour compounded by a wife laughing at my cursing the dog will hopefully be compensated by a quality piece of kit.

Cheers trout

thanks trout 🙂 it's a toss up between your dominator light and an exposure mark 2 six pack (sorry 😳 the reason being,i don't have a credit card/cheque book,i know that the bike shop i go to can get exposure lights (can pay instalments with them/love the idea of it all in one battery/light).but i must admit to being very taken with your lights (you are obviously a light genius 😉 seeing some of the pictures of your super bright lights (showing how far they light the trail) awesome 😀 as it is going to take me around 16-20 weeks to save £450,might you have any brighter ones for sale by then?and apologies for all the questions 😳

I had the pleasure of having both the Spider Eyes and the "Dominator" at the same time the other week.....I was curious as to what the lumen output with both was? It was an insane amount of light. 😯

I found the Dominator was fine on low for road and off road climbs and then med for anything else, even the downs....I only used the boost a couple of times cos it was raining and there was a little too much glare back from the wet. 🙁

I did (just for a laugh) run them both up on boost down a dark tree covered s.track (down to seldom seen) and i can honestly say there would be no point in having anything brighter as it would ust be wasted light (if you know what i mean).

The finnished item is looking really nice BTW...Excellent work Chris! 😛

both on boost would be in the region of 4000 lumens, but lumens are not the whole story...

Well, completed my first ride with the Dominator tonight around our local loop. Must say i am over the moon with the light, used it mainly on the mid setting Level 3 which was ideal for the twisty trails, next 2 levels up were immense and boost was utterly mad. the light gives a great even spread, no hot spots and didn't seem to lack anything. My riding buds were gob smacked by the lights power.

One very happy troutie customer here 🙂

I've dropped "high" current on mine down to 2.8A. Can't say i can notice the difference between that & 3A, but it's less drain on the battery. Tonight i did a slightly longer loop than tues, but with way less use of the high current setting i easily got a 2 hour ride with the 2.6AH battery.

Trout, I have a 2 x 20W Lumicycle Halogen setup with massive endurance 6ah battery. So, am I right in thinking you do a Lumicycle battery crossover lead? I expect the battery is complete overkill for LED tech for a few hours night riding above Bingley, but it's all good to covert, right?
