Well, in -4 deg tonight I went MTBing out of Edinburgh. And as I left the city limits I saw something happen I'd never seen - my drive side pedal disassembled itself leaving me cold, getting colder despite extra layers wondering how to fix such a thing (pedal departed spindle).
To cut a long sorry short, half an hour of cursing and repeated rewarming of hands and crucially a second pair of hands from a guy who's hopefully on this forum, pedal was reassembled.
Who ever you were, if you're on this forum - ta very much. It just wasn't happening without help.

Even still managed a couple of hours in the hills !!

Cheers.

Great wee story, nice when something like that happens.
Similar thing happened to me a few years ago, half way around Borrowdale bash threw the chain coming down to Grange it wrapped itself around the cassette ripped a good few spokes out the hub and forced the free hub off the hub body!
I was in for a long push home along the road.
After about 40 seconds pushing, a guy stopped asked if i was ok, i explained my problem he offered me and my bike a lift back to Keswick.
So lucky! ๐Ÿ˜€

Actually superstar pedals. First time I've ever had a pedal depart the spindle. Odd failure. Anyway - superstar have asked for it back to have a look. I'll use my other superstar pedals in the meantime ๐Ÿ™‚

Jodafett - heh heh. Well fixed it once so could fix it again between three of us :-). But most important - regular checks for play to make sure it was put about to happen ๐Ÿ™‚

Just ace to somehow still get out, cos I could not find a 9mm socket in my rucksack ๐Ÿ™‚ strangely enough.

People like that are known as Bike Angels (to me) and I'm not sure that they exist on this mortal plane, I think they just dip in and out to help cyclists in distress... ๐Ÿ™‚
