Looks like you can't avoid the A40 between Carmarthen and St Clears without having to pick your way through a load of hilly lanes, which always takes ages. What's it like for riding on? Nasty or ok?

Dunno but it'll be better than riding there from the west.

Nasty. Dual carriage way with lorries, caravans and high speed locals.
Avoid and stick to the hilly lanes.
Where are you coming from?

As above, I wouldn’t go anywhere near the A40 on a bike.

I've ridden it.. it's not too bad and it isn't that hilly. Which route are you taking after st clears? The coast road from pendine is nice if a bit hilly (more short sharp than long grinding)

I've ridden most roads around south Pembrokeshire (it's my back yard)I'd recommend to go from st clears to Laugharne, Pendine, Amroth, Wiseman's Bridge, Saundersfoot , then Tenby. There's a few sharp climbs in there but it's probably the nicest route. If you've got a cx bike you could probably ride a huge section across the beaches if you fancied an alternative route..
