Looks like we have booked our summer riding trip to Norway this time, a few days staying at the edge of the hills just outside Oslo then driving up to Nesbyen to stay in an air BnB thing there for the rest of the week.
There are tons of trails on trail forks so we are planning to just patch together some rides from them, but don't want to miss anything lovely or end up on loads of jump lines.
So has anyone ridden there/lives there and knows what's good? It's a proper maze on trail forks especially outside Oslo. We love narrow jiggly tech, less ridden walking path type stuff. At home in Scotland we would be riding stuff like Scotly, High Burnside, Pitmedden or going up a Munro. Not at all interested in riding flow trails/jump lines/bike park type stuff, and not fussed about getting uplifts. Pedalling and XC routes with technical riding are perfect.
I have asked to book a few days guiding in Nesbyen as well which should be great if we manage to get booked on.
Ta for the help
Which part of Oslo are you staying in? Around the city you have the various parts of the "Marka" (Østmarka, Nordmarka) some it can be reached using the metro system pretty easily. Other bits you might have to ride to, but it's a small city so you shouldn't have to go too far!
Also, what types of bikes are you bringing/hiring? You can pretty much ride wherever you like, there are 1000's of km of gravel riding and a lot of walking trails that are rooty and technical that can be ridden on MTB, but they can be pretty boggy if the weather has been wet. There are some parts that are protected nature reserves, normally for nesting birds but these are normally sign posted.
I don't know Nesbyen well but I feel like there's someone on here that runs a guiding service: www.anyexcusetoride.com, might be worth contacting them?
Hope that helps!
I hadn't seen they had posted that here, but yeah that's who we have already messaged for a few days guiding 😁
The hotel we are looking at is on the north side just next to the smaller of the two lakes. Right by a massive carpark for walking/riding etc.
We will be taking our trail bikes, light enough to ride all day and down for most stuff. We have found a Buzz Cargo to rent so it will be just like being at home 😁
